Tutti
My Senior Project at California College of the Arts, Tutti, explores how movement-responsive projection and sound can help people understand how a musical ensemble works together.
This case study will evolve as I research, prototype, and bring the experience to life.

A lifetime around music
Growing up surrounded by music, from playing instruments myself to watching my older sibling compose, perform, and conduct, I developed a deep appreciation for the way an ensemble comes together.
But experiencing a symphony and understanding how it works are two different things. I began wondering how people without a musical background could move beyond simply listening and experience the coordination, expression, and energy that bring an orchestra to life.

“I’ve worked with many designers before, but this experience was on another level. The attention to detail and thoughtful approach made the process smooth and enjoyable.”
From audience to participant
For someone unfamiliar with orchestral music, the relationship between a conductor's gestures, individual musicians, and the sound of the ensemble may not be immediately clear.
I see an opportunity to turn that complexity into something people can explore firsthand, using movement, responsive visuals, and sound to make the experience of conducting more intuitive, playful, and immersive.
The next movement
I'm beginning with conversations with conductors and musicians, alongside research into audience behavior and existing interactive exhibits. From there, I'll use those findings to refine the concept, prototype motion-responsive interactions, and test how people engage with the experience.
